Riega Foods, LLC., is a family owned and operated organic herb, spice, and spice blend manufacturer in Kansas City, MO. We are a fast-growing company looking for a Quality Assurance Technician to join our team.
The Quality Assurance Technician is responsible for performing food safety and quality sampling on products and audits during production to ensure all incoming materials, finished goods, and manufacturing meet food safety standards. They will perform daily tasks such as: product sampling, product testing, in-line production checks, verifying lot numbers and data, environmental swabbing, and the continuous improvement of our food safety system. This position requires excellent multitasking ability, attention to detail, and ability to work quickly and efficiently in a food manufacturing environment. The right candidate will be proactive, self-motivated, and possess a strong work ethic and initiative.
Job Description & Responsibilities:
Perform standardized food safety sampling and verify lot numbers, weights, and labels on all inbound material
Perform standardized quality samplings and audits during production; organize collected data into electronic logbooks, databases, and report variances and non-conformities to plant management
Review and improve an environmental monitoring program and ensure continuous compliance
Follow all required work instructions, work aids and documents as they pertain to Quality, Environment, Safety, and Food Safety
Understand, monitor and act accordingly to support SQF-GFSI compliance, FDA-FSMA regulatory requirements, Food Safety & Quality programs as implemented by Riega Foods,LLC. This individual has the authority and responsibility to stop production should the product be out of specification and/or observed food safety or compliance breach
Perform pre-operational checks on food processing equipment prior to production
Monitor compliance of the food safety system by collecting samples of incoming raw materials and finished goods and performing required in-house testing (visual, bulk density, particle size, allergens, and moisture)
Conduct package quality inspection and quality audits and isolate product that does not meet standards
Assist in preparing and shipping samples for sales and quality departments
Assist in maintenance of QA documentation and operations procedures
Monitor of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s), food safety, food quality and production parameters on a routine basis
Attend training to remain current on industry trends and food safety topics
Works closely with other key users in appropriate departments to ensure consistency
Assist the Quality Assurance management team with any projects as designated
Qualified Candidates must
High School Diploma or GED preferred. Some college a plus
Minimum of one year of work experience required
Prior experience in production and/or manufacturing or as a lab technician preferred
Demonstrated ability to participate in a positive and engaged team atmosphere
Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and accuracy
Be excited to work in a fast-growing company with room for development
Familiarity with HACCP principles and food safety
Must be able to read, write, and speak English to properly understand and relay important safety and quality information
Capable of working well with others and maintaining excellent interdepartmental relationships
Readily accepts instruction from management and supervisors and executes effectively
Must be able to take initiative and work independently at times
Needs to be reliable and open to a flexible schedule
Strong computer comprehension capabilities, including Word, Excel, and various quality system applications

Work hours
This is a full-time, hourly, and non-exempt position with hours Monday through Friday between 7:00 am and 3:30 pm. Overtime does occur during times of heavy volumes at 1.5x pay.
